'New Meanings' delves into the mind of a young girl who, through playful imaginings, begins to question and process the traumatic events she has witnessed. Based on Annaliese Broughton's poem, the film is motivated by the poet's own anger at herself, her family, and society. Performed by the poet herself, the film is an ode to her mum and her incredible strength, but also serves as a reminder that one in four women have experienced domestic abuse since the age of 16. Between 2022 and 2023, all refuge services in England supported an estimated 10,824 women and 12,989.
